This is a neuroscience article, but I believe it speaks to the collective conscious and why meditation works better in groups. An idea in Buddhism is that all suffering (the three poisons of anger, attachment, and ignorance) stems from the illusion of self grasping and in thinking that we are totally separate from each other.
