Hiring a lawn guy was one of the best decisions I ever made. I thought it was good exercise, but I was nearly killing myself in the heat (the equivalent of shoveling snow). I was never compelled to mow it and so let it get high to the point of getting code violations. I have mostly Floratam grass with some bahia that gets high fast. I don't fertilize or water it and it looks ok. When I walk the neighborhood and see the lawns with the little Massey signs that show the lawn was just treated with chemicals... those lawns look like a golf course or an airbrushed model from a magazine.
